What it costs, how it works.

How much does outdoor lighting installation cost in New Jersey?

Every project is different, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer. A basic pathway lighting setup for a smaller property typically starts in the low thousands; a full custom landscape lighting design for a larger home ranges higher depending on fixtures, wire runs, and transformer requirements. We provide transparent, itemized quotes with no hidden fees — most clients receive theirs within 24 hours of the consultation.

How do I get a quote?

Request a quote through the site or use the chat, any time of day — or call (908) 540-6446. Tell us the town, the property, and what you have in mind, and we'll set up a walk-through. Quotes are free, transparent, and itemized — no hidden fees.

How soon can we start?

Reach out and we'll schedule a walk-through — most clients have a transparent, itemized quote within 24 hours of the consultation. Install scheduling depends on the season and the scope of the job, and we'll talk timing when we quote. For holiday lighting, book early: the calendar closes well before Thanksgiving.

How long does a landscape lighting installation take?

It depends on the scope — fixture count, wire runs, and transformer work drive the timeline more than property size does. Most residential installs move quickly; larger layered designs take longer. Every system is designed on your property, and your itemized quote spells out the scope before work starts.

Do I need a permit for low-voltage landscape lighting in NJ?

Usually not. Low-voltage landscape lighting systems typically don't require an electrical permit in New Jersey, but requirements vary by township — some towns have their own rules for exterior work. We're happy to talk through what your specific town may require during the walk-through; final permit determination is always your local building department's call.

Are you insured?

Yes. Unique Outdoor Lighting is fully insured for every project we take on, including liability coverage that protects your property throughout the installation. We're happy to provide documentation on request before any work begins.

Inside the system.

Should I choose a timer or smart controls?

Both work well — it comes down to how hands-on you want to be. An astronomical timer tracks sunset and sunrise automatically, so the lights adjust through the seasons without reprogramming. Smart controls add zone-by-zone brightness and scheduling from your phone. We install both, and they can integrate with popular smart-home platforms.

Can landscape lighting be added to smart home systems?

Yes. We install smart-compatible transformers and controls that integrate with popular platforms. You can set schedules, adjust brightness by zone, and control your entire outdoor lighting system from your phone.

How big should a landscape lighting transformer be?

Bigger than the system's current load. A transformer sized with headroom runs cooler, lasts longer, and leaves room to add fixtures later without a rebuild. Undersized or aging transformers are a common failure point in older systems, which is why transformer upgrades are part of most LED conversions we do.

How long do LED landscape lights last compared to halogen?

Far longer. Quality LED lamps are typically rated for tens of thousands of hours, while halogen bulbs often last only a few thousand — which is why older halogen systems need constant bulb changes. LEDs also use a fraction of the energy, so an upgrade lowers both maintenance and running costs.

Will installation tear up my lawn or garden beds?

No. Wiring is buried and beds are left the way we found them — clean installation is part of the job, not an add-on. When lighting and outdoor audio go in together, we run all wiring in a single visit, so there's no second round of trenching from a separate crew.

Through every season.

What areas of New Jersey does Unique Outdoor Lighting serve?

We serve communities across Morris, Essex, Somerset, Union, and Bergen County. Our most active areas include Short Hills, Far Hills, Bernardsville, Mendham, Chatham, Summit, Morristown, Madison, Basking Ridge, Livingston, and Westfield. Not sure if we cover your area? Call (908) 540-6446 and we'll let you know right away.

Do you install and remove holiday lighting?

Yes — holiday lighting is turnkey. We design the display, install it, service it during the season, and take it down when the season ends. Your lights are stored properly so next year starts with a phone call, not a redesign.

How often does landscape lighting need maintenance?

We recommend at least once a year but when joining our Lighting Preservation program we offer an extended warranty.

Do you service lighting systems you didn't install?

Yes. We service all brands and all system types — low voltage, line voltage, LED, and halogen — whether or not we did the original install. One broken fixture or a full system diagnostic, we handle both. Common calls include dead fixtures, transformer failures, timer issues, and corroded wiring.

Does landscape lighting run through New Jersey winters?

Yes. Low-voltage LED systems are built to run year-round, and we install fixtures and connections made for New Jersey weather — freezing temperatures included. Landscape lighting stays on through winter. Holiday lighting is the seasonal layer: we take it down after the season and store it for next year.

Do you light commercial properties?

Yes. We work with business owners, property managers, HOAs, and developers across New Jersey. Commercial work covers storefronts, office buildings, restaurants, event venues, multi-family properties, and architectural landmarks. Every project starts with a custom design — recent work includes the exterior lighting at The Fresh Market in Bedminster.
