What is holiday takedown and storage?

Holiday Takedown and Storage is one of the holiday & event lighting services we install across New Jersey. Takedown removes the seasonal system after the holidays and stores it labeled by the elevation it came off, so the same lengths return to the same runs the following season.

How do we install it?

Each run is coiled and labeled with the elevation and the run it came from, so next season's install matches without a fresh survey.

Clips and fasteners come off with the strands rather than being left on the gutter to weather through the rest of the year.

Strands are stored dry and loosely coiled, because a tight coil left damp is what cracks insulation and kills a section over the summer.

Anything that failed during the season is pulled and noted at takedown, while it is still obvious which run it belonged to.

Takedown starts at the highest elevation and works downward, so a dropped strand does not land on a run still fastened to a lower gutter.

Storage bins are opaque and sealed, as a clear tote left in an attic subjects the leads to a season of UV that shortens their life next year.

Any strand with more than a set percentage of dead bulbs is retired at takedown, because a partial repair next season costs more time than a replacement run.

Metal clips are inspected for spring tension before storage, since a fatigued clip returns to the roof already loose and drops in the first wind.

What does a bad install look like?

Pulling everything into one box in an afternoon. Next season starts with a knot, and the sections that failed are impossible to place on the building.

Bins stacked under insulation in a hot attic. By November the insulation on the leads has softened and cracked, and half the strands short on the test bench.

Rooftop staples left in place through summer for a faster install next season. Rust bleeds down the shingles by spring, and the staple heads pop through the roofing granules.
