How do we install it?

Steps and grade changes are lit from within the riser or the adjacent wall, so the tread reads without a fixture anyone can look into.

Seating areas are lit from below eye level or from above the sight line, never straight across a table where the source sits in view.

Output is kept low here relative to the rest of the yard, because a seated person's eyes adapt and a bright fixture reads as harsh.

Structures such as pergolas and railings carry their own concealed fixtures, which keeps the light close to the surface it is meant to reveal.

Wall-washers on a house face are aimed downward at a steep angle, so the light hits the deck surface and never enters a seated eye.

Recessed deck lights are rated for foot traffic and cut into blocking rather than a single board, which stops the board flexing under load.

Low-voltage cable is stapled to the underside of joists along a defined path, since a wire routed loosely under a deck snags on rakes and stored furniture.

Steps get a dedicated circuit separate from ambient lighting, so a step run stays lit at full output even when the mood zone dims for a meal.

What does a bad install look like?
