What is driveway and gate lighting?

Driveway and Gate Lighting is one of the landscape lighting services we install across New Jersey. Driveway and gate lighting marks the entrance and the edges of a drive so the turn-in is findable from the road and the approach reads as a sequence rather than a dark strip.

How do we install it?

The entrance is lit first and brightest in the sequence, because that is the decision point a driver has to find from the road.

Edge fixtures are set back from the pavement far enough to survive a plow blade and a turning wheel, not right on the apron.

Piers, gate posts and columns are lit as objects, which gives the entrance a width a driver can read at speed.

Output steps down as the drive approaches the house, so the eye adapts gradually instead of arriving at a bright wall.

Bollards suit a paved drive where a stake fixture would sit exposed to a snow blade, and their heights are chosen against the driver sight line.

Curves and grade changes carry a fixture at the apex, since a driver reads a lit turn earlier than a lit straight of the same length.

Column tops carry a downward beam rather than an upward wash, which keeps the light on the drive surface a car has to navigate.

Fixtures on a long rural drive get riser extensions before winter, so a foot of packed snow does not bury the beam under a white blanket.

What does a bad install look like?

Bright fixtures aimed along the drive toward oncoming cars. It puts glare in the driver's eyes at the exact moment they need to judge the turn.

Solar spikes marching down both edges of a long drive. By January half are tilted or knocked flat, and the row reads as a broken picket fence rather than an approach.

A gate lit hard from the inside face only. Anyone approaching from the road sees a silhouette, and the address plate stays illegible from a car.
