What is flickering or dead fixtures?

Flickering or Dead Fixtures is one of the lighting maintenance & repair services we install across New Jersey. A flickering or dead fixture is usually a symptom of a supply problem rather than a failed lamp, so the diagnosis starts at the connection and the run instead of at the housing.

How do we install it?

Voltage is measured at the fixture under load, since a reading taken with the fixture disconnected can look perfectly healthy.

The joint immediately upstream is opened and inspected first, because corrosion there produces exactly the intermittent behavior a failing lamp mimics.

Flicker across several fixtures on one run points at the transformer or the cable, not at the individual housings, and is traced that way.

The housing is checked for standing water at the same visit, which explains most early lamp failures on an otherwise healthy run.

The lamp is swapped into a known good fixture as a first check, which confirms whether the fault sits in the lamp or in the socket that held it.

Sockets showing green corrosion on the contacts are replaced rather than cleaned, because a scraped contact rebuilds the same oxide layer within weeks.

A fixture found sitting in standing water is repositioned above the drip line during the same visit, since the run itself is now soaked and will fail again if left in place.

The connector immediately downstream is opened as well as the one upstream, because a splash on one side of a fixture almost always tracked into the other.

What does a bad install look like?

Replacing the lamp and leaving. The corroded joint upstream is still there, and the replacement fails the same way on the same schedule.

A dimming fixture at the end of a long run treated as failed on its own. It is the last stop on a voltage drop, and every other fixture upstream is bright while the run itself is the fault.

Silicone squirted into a corroded socket. The lamp holds contact for a week, then the silicone cures around the corrosion and the fixture dies with the socket sealed shut.
