What is fixture upgrades and replacements?

Fixture Upgrades and Replacements is one of the residential outdoor lighting services we install across New Jersey. A fixture upgrade swaps aging or failed housings on an existing low-voltage system while keeping the buried wire and transformer, so the layout survives and only the hardware changes.

How do we install it?

The existing run is tested under load before anything is ordered, so a failing cable is not hidden behind a set of new fixtures.

Replacements are matched to the existing transformer's capacity, because a set of brighter housings can push an older supply past its rating.

Connections are remade with waterproof, gel-filled joints rather than reusing the crimps that corroded in the first place.

Aim and position are re-set after dark once the new housings are in, since a different optic rarely lands where the old one did.

Replacement housings share the mount pattern of the originals where possible, so existing risers and stakes stay in position and beds remain undisturbed.

Brass and copper replacements are chosen for coastal or high-humidity sites, as aluminum housings pit through their finish within a few seasons in salt air.

Lensed replacements are re-aimed with a new frame of reference, because a wider or narrower optic never lands on the same subject as the fixture it replaced.

Voltage arriving at the last fixture on the run is remeasured after the swap, since new LED housings sit at a lighter load and can drift high on an old tap setting.

What does a bad install look like?

Dropping new housings onto old corroded connections. The fixtures are fine and the system still fails, usually at the first joint after the transformer.

Housings replaced without a re-aim visit. By full darkness half the fixtures light the mulch behind the shrub instead of the shrub itself.

A brass replacement mounted onto a rusted steel stake. The dissimilar metals corrode at the joint within a season, and the whole fixture tips out of position.
